Charity spotlight

A Natural Selection

What are your plans for Earth Day 2012? When you think of charities to help out, think trees and grass and critters, and the organizations working every day to protect them.

We love nature, so it's only natural that we love The Nature Conservancy too. This organization works around the world to save lands and waters for nature and people.

The Nature Conservancy has preserved more than 119 million acres of land and 5,000 miles of rivers worldwide — and they operate more than 100 marine conservation projects globally. With a foot in all 50 states and more than 30 countries, they protect habitats from grasslands to coral reefs in places all the way from Alaska to Zambia. Check Nature Conservancy out today.

Great idea

Earth Day is April 22, but you can celebrate all year long with clever craft activities!

One of our favorites is planting a simple herb garden. Just grab a grownup and a small planter. Decide on your three favorite herbs -- we recommend pizza toppers like basil and oregano, and mint for summer lemonade. Use a long rectangular planter and cluster the seeds in three areas so they grow together.

Start the seeds indoors now, and before you know it, you'll have a garden full of good taste. When the seedlings are sturdy in a few weeks, move the planter outside and enjoy your delicious greens!

Book
From USA Weekend Magazine

"It's never too early to teach children the valuable lessons of giving back. Kids have a natural tendency to care about others, and they should be encouraged to put that caring into action."

That's what Karen writes in USA Weekend Magazine, which features The Good Fun! Book in its September 26 issue as they look forward to Make a Difference Day 2010.

Praise From Marcia Bullard
"This book is fun, inspiring—and it might help kids change our world. Kids love parties, and they love to help people and animals in need. What a brilliant idea to turn parties into service projects where kids actually make a difference and learn how good it feels to give back!"

and former CEO of USA WEEKEND Magazine

"The Good Fun! Book is full of absolutely wonderful party ideas for both parents and teachers, to engage children with delightful activities and crafts that will indeed be fun—and will do some good in the world. Brilliant ideas like making “doggy bags” full of toys and treats for dogs and cats at animal shelters abound (that’s the one I’ll be doing for my own daughter’s upcoming 7th birthday!). You’ll find 12 great parties for the 12 months of the year, each teaching children that giving to those less fortunate than themselves is the right thing to do—and thus joyful in and of itself. I hope this book reaches the top of the best seller lists, as it deserves to do."
